Topping Off Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak, the highest point of Cebu, is a popular site for mountaineers and campers. Last August 9, I had the chance to cross this one out from my checklist. This trip was my first ever mountain trek and camping experience and I was really hoping that everything would go as planned.

All set to the summit

Going To Bantayan Island

Sugar Beach

Bantayan Island, one of the most popular summer destinations in Cebu. The island is flocked by tourists during Holy Week not only for its vast white sand beaches but also for its unusual tradition of allowing the consumption of meat during this season. It is also home of the famous and delicious danggit (dried fish).

Having Fun at Funtastic Island, Medellin

Funtastic Island
It was the holiday season of 2012 and we were itching for some getaway adventure so we decided to go to the famous Funtastic Island in Medellin. None of us in our group have been to this island before, making this trip more adventurous.

We scheduled our meet-up at Cebu North Bus Terminal at 5:00am but as expected, everybody arrived 30 minutes later. We took the 6:00am scheduled air-conditioned Ceres bus to Daan-Bantayan through Kawit, our drop-off point. The trip from Cebu City to Kawit, Medellin is around three and a half hours, good thing we took the AC bus (P150/person) for us to have a comfortable sleep on the road. Since none of us is familiar with Medellin, I asked the conductor to drop us off at a bus stop in Kawit. The bus stop was in front of the church. It is already past 9:00am when we arrived at Kawit and we haven't had our breakfast yet. We decided to go the market which is a few meters away from the bus stop. We had breakfast at a carenderia and while we're at the market, bought our lunch of lechon manok, puso and some softdrinks. We asked some locals for directions on how to get to Funtastic Island and found out that we needed to go to the port which is far from the market. We took a pedicab to the port (P10/head).

Siargao: Surfing

It is early dawn and I can't get back to sleep in excitement. In the next couple of hours, I will soon be riding the waves of Siargao. We arranged to have our surfing session at six o'clock in the morning since we would be going back to Cebu at 11:00am. It's now 5:00am and my excitement is growing so we decided to head to the Cloud 9 Boardwalk for a stroll and take pictures before we get busy with surfing.

Day 3: Siargao

We woke up early at 5:00 o'clock in the morning eager to go to Siargao mainland. With our energy pools replenished from a good night's sleep, we prepared for another long day ahead. We took the first lantsa trip from Socorro to Dapa, Siargao (Siargao's main town) at 6:00am.

Siargao's Hidden: Magpopongko Beach Lagoon

The sand and the beach at Magpopongko Beach
When I hear Siargao, all I can think of is surfing. There is no denying that Siargao is the surfing capital of the Philippines with all the large waves loved by the surfers. But amidst the crushing of the high waves, there is a peaceful side of Siargao hidden away from the bustling surfing world.

Sohoton Cove, Bucas Grande

Day 2, Bucas Grande:

We had an early wake up call at 5:00AM for us to prepare and catch the earliest ride to Hayanggabon Port. After we had a feast of hotdogs, omelet and kinilaw na pasayan (alive and kicking shrimp dipped in suka) for breakfast, we bade goodbye to our hosts and head for the road. The mountainside parts of the road to Hayanggabon is still on the works, so expect a slow and bumpy ride.

Bucas Grande Islands
We arrived at Hayanggabon port at around 8:30AM. Our first plan was to get to Socorro Town first through the regular scheduled trip of the lantsa. When we learned that the lantsa to Socorro will not depart until 11:00AM, we opted to find other options on getting there. We were able to arrange an outrigger boat to take us to a tour to the Bucas Grande islands first and drop us at Socorro town afterwards.

Day 1: Tinuy-an Falls and Enchanted River

Day 1, Surigao:

It's 6:20AM and we just arrived at the Butuan Airport, the starting point of our 4-day Northeast Mindanao Adventure. This is my first ever out of Cebu Adventure Trip and I also just had my first ever plane ride getting to Butuan. Our plan is to visit Tinuy-an Falls, Enchanted River, Sohoton Cove and Siargao mainland with a limited budget of P5000. We have not prepared any arrangements beforehand so we definitely needed to have our haggling skills ready.

We chartered a van for hire at the Butuan Airport and arranged the driver to take us to the Tinuy-an Falls and Enchanted River and drop us at Cantilan where we decided to spend the night. After negotiations and some haggling, we were off to Bislig City where the famous waterfall is located.

Blog It Is

I am thinking of creating my own blog for some time now. I'm not sure if I'm good at this.
Well, I'll just give it a try and see for myself.
